For years it was normal for women not to vote or have jobs outside the home. Normalacy changes. I don't think it's ever, ever good to just accept tradition as the okay way to do things. If you're ever going through anything with your brain turned off, you don't know what you're buying into. Not everything traditional must change - we have good reasons for a lot of traditions. People's evaluations of good and bad might differ on a tradition. But buying into something just because it's normal or traditional seems like somehow doing less than you could to make the world someplace we might actually want to live. I don't eschew all tradition, but I certainly don't advocate buying into it for its own sake.
