Yeah, it's on, small group or no. Bring your SotS characters -- I'm going to put my random adventure generator to the test.

Just wanted to touch base with you guys. We're two days from Baby Day, so I guess this confirmation that October is out for me. And probably November. As for December... well, I'll get back to you. Whenever we game again, expect the plot to involve poopies and a Dire Barney that must be killed at all costs.

Coming down to SD might not be in the cards for you anymore, but I'm more than happy to go up to Irvine for a game.

I think that may be possible in a while, once we're settled in. I'll keep everyone posted.

I dunno. We could get back to our "Spirit of the Sword" game, or someone could run something they pitched for Hyphen-Con that didn't get voted in, or whatever. Like, I know Chris had an interest in playing that FATE Supers game, but it doesn't look like I'll be doing it at Hyphen-Con, so if people were into it I could run it that Friday instead.

It's funny -- the pitch for that game ended up being very similar to last year's Four Weapons and a Funeral, in that I thought up a goofy title without having any idea what the game would actually entail.

And Andy -- they're both pure concept! "Post-Apoc Strawberry Shortcake." "Gothic Victorian Horror." They're also both PDQ, now that I think about it....

So hey -- we still on for this?

And FATE Supers, or something else? I have this Smallville RPG playtest document just burning a hole on my hard drive. Also, Heroes of Metropolis, a supers version of Barbarians of Lemuria. S'posed to be playtesting that, too. And something else -- what the hell was it... or Derelict Delvers, a small-press retro sci-fi game in the vein of Mazes & Minotaurs (right down to the "this is actually an old game!!!" gimmick). Or someone else run something. Or whatever.

Any of those options sounds fine to me (although I'll be frank, Smallville sounds less interesting than any of the others).

I should still be able to attend. I would lean towards a familiar game/system due to the twin barbs of time and 'we're running a shit ton of random stuff the next day already'.

Understood. I don't give a shit about Smallville the show, but the game is pretty nifty, IMO.

So FATE Supers it'll be, then. I'll bring, like, four or five pre-gens. It'd be cool to do chargen -- certainly it'd be a better test of the system -- but that'd probably take more time than we want to spend on that sort of thing.

Hey hey, fellas -- belated thanks for the All-Hyphen's Eve playtesting. The hack still feels really solid to me (with the exception of Temper getting perma-Blocked), but if anyone has feedback or suggestions or anything, I'm all ears.

I thought it was a great system in play. I liked how powers worked and that it was your best application of subbing a dF for a d6.

The only thing I was curious about was character creation.

I would love to playtest character creation, but I didn't want to potentially take up the whole session with it.

Short version: It's point based. Skills cost rating in points, Refresh costs 5 points per point (but you start with 1 Refresh), and super-skills cost 10 points per tier above Mundane (so Extraordinary costs another 10 points, Superhuman is another 20 points, etc.). Custom super-skills are comprised of individual trappings and toppings (sort of add-ons to the trappings), mostly culled from the SotC skill list. You get two trappings for free (so you could have a super-skill of, say, Optic Blast that's just the Attack trapping and the Range topping, and it'd cost points equal to its rating plus the tier cost). Every super-skill requires a constraint of some kind, usually in the form of an aspect, so the more super-skills you have, the more they impact your life, as it were. Clique had "Complication: Must Maintain Cool Reputation," for instance, because of her Duplication power.

That's about it, really. The bear was coming up with the list of trappings.

The characters you played were built on 80 points. The Headmaster was built on something like 100, and his students were about 45 each.

So we seem to have a consensus here. What're we going to play? Who's going to run? And when? Keep in mind we'll have McAree, too; he'll probably be up for anything, just to be a mensch, although he won't have familiarity with new-school indie games like FATE or any of that junk -- not that he wouldn't give it a shot, I'm sure.

I don't have any gimmicks in mind, or I'd run something myself. Although... the 4E Tomb of Horrors comes out on the 20th....
