Well, I got a free copy of this at the Con, and I'm all psyched to play... only I CANT!!!

Turns out my girlfriend's computer doesn't have a good enough video card. My computer most likely does, but it doesnt have an ethernet card and therefore can't get on the internet.

Anyone know where I can pick up a decent ethernet card for cheep?

Should be able to get one anywhere for under $20. Hell, I've got extras I'd be happy to give you if you're gonna be playing boot hill on thurs.

Well, it wasn't exactly free, per se. I had to buy $50 worth of stuff, but it was stuff I was going to buy anyway, so the way I see it, I got the game for free. :)

I actually bought one of those for Plaidrhino a few months ago. Rolls pretty well, and great fun to throw at players.

Okay, more prolbems getting online. My computer has decided to stop working. I plug it in, turn it on, and get a message that says I need a boot disc to start it up. Here's what I've done to the computer sense the last time I got it to work. I've take out the memory card and then put it back in. I've taken out the video card and put it back in. I've added the Ethernet card Winter gave me. I've taken out the ethernet card, to see if maybe that was it, but I still got the boot error message. I even made sure the hard drive was plugged in correctly. Anyone got any ideas?

Make sure there's no floppy in the drive, and remove any CDs as well. What's the exact message? Might be a fried HD, or just an incorrect setting in your bios.

There are no disks in the drives (first thing I checked). I'll get the exact message later and post it up.

I agree that it sounds like a blown drive :( . But it could be either the power or ribbon cable going to the drive. Some older computers will let you plug it in either way. The red side of the ribbon should face the power input. At least that's what I usually did when I got that type of message.

ARRRRGHH!!!! This is getting damn frustrating.

Well, there is some good news. I found out that the controller card WAS loose, and this was causing the error. Everything on my hard drive is a-okay. <WHEW!>

So, I installed the ethernet card, but now I cant find drivers that make it work. I mean, I found a driver that Windows said was compatable, loaded it, restarted my computer, and then I can't connect to the interent... maybe I need some other type of software...

If you do ever manage to get it working, you are really going to love the game. I've had it for about a month and it totally fulfill all of my pathetic nerdy fanboy fantasies. Seriously though, it's great. Check out Virtue server, that is where the majority of the roleplayers seem to hang out. Look me up, I play the Cerulean Bolt.

Now, I'm off again to load up City of Heroes and see if that works too.

Man, this game is a blast! I made a couple of characters on the Victory server. Both are based on comics I used to draw in high-school. The first is my primary, the Masked Revenger!

The next is based off my avatar over there <---. I couldn't get the name Raven, so this is Ravenscorn!

Does the Masked Revenger still work at 7-11 at night, and fight crime only during the day? ;)

I did write that into his bio, but of course in game you don't actually have a secret ID.

Well, you could do what I did: when you get your second costume slot, make a "street clothes" costume so you can walk around in your secret ID. Of course, for some reason, all the badguys still shoot at me... it's very odd. I guess my secret ID isn't secret enough.

No! You're supposed to say "They tried and failed?" Then I say,

"They tried and died."

Anyway, a friend of mine has it as an MPEG or something. I've heard it's nigh unwatchable, but I figure with all the other unwatchable things I've seen lately it shouldn't be a problem. I've been using "Firefly" as an antidote.

Oops. Sorry about hijacking the thread. I can't help but feel partially responsible (although Chris was the first one to stray, what with his "This reminds me of the JLA movie" remark).

Anyway, CoH is a great game, but I'm so far in debt now that it's gotten a little frustrating. I have a couple characters on Virtue; if I happen to run into the Masked Revenger, I'll say hi.

This thing's great. This is what I got when I requested names involving "Atomic/Radioactive" and "Color: Orange."

Atomicia

Gal Lad

Gala

Girlo

Master Lad

Mistress Master

Nuclear Fission

Nucleomistress

Nuke Man

Ochre Lad

Any name generator that gives me names like Gal Lad, Master Lad, Mistress Master, and Girlo is alright by me.

Ok, this is kinda interesting...

Azure Girl
Blast Sapphire
Bullet Sapphire
Cerulian Bolt
Dart Beam
Dart Blaster
Dynamaster
Dynamo Ray
Girl Beam
Gun Dynamo
Indigo Beam
Lightning Bolt
Lightning Girl
Mistress Dart
Mistress Woman
Sapphire Bullet
Sapphire Lad
Thunder Gal
Volt Arrow
Volta

Those were the names I got when I put in the characteristics of my hero, an elec/elec blaster with a blue costume.

Cerulean Bolt IS the name of my character. Although they have it mispelled as Cerulian. Still... Pretty cool eh?

I guess there's no easy way for that thing to filter out the names that just don't make sense, is there?
