I agree with Skyman that this is very play-style dependent. Many players have not liked this type of game because there are no clear right choices and their role as "good guys" is not clear. It is a lot harder to imagine how to make this sort of player interaction work in a game where the players ar...

I like to introduce player conflicts by presenting objectives that are both good and bad. In other words, present choices that aren't obvious "fight the orks!" but morally ambiguous "should we collaborate with the somewhat oppressive but generally benevolent elven overlords or side with the racist a...

What would Conan do? He would infiltrate the Sorceror-king's lair and assassinate him. Seems more direct than an army. Of course, Conan and friends need to get the McGuffin that allows them to disarm the fiendish magical traps around the Sorceror King's lair. That requires a bit of a side journey to...

I think Devlin's idea is a good one. While I also like the idea of writing connections based on background story, it always tends to get people stuck and slow things down too much. It would be better to have a set of 6 or 12 common background elements and either roll dice or choose from the table if...

I agree that immersion and the ability to act as the character would act are my favorite parts of roleplaying, but that certainly isn't the case for many. An example: My PC (standard dwarf type) got into an argument with another PC (dragonkind diplomat type) about the form of government that should ...

Devlin,
I just saw your name on the Legends of Anglerre book. Congrats!
Do you happen to know if the hard copy is available yet? Or is it still just the PDF bundle pre-order deal?

Devlin, Initially, you said this was a random city generator for hinterdorfen towns. However, the way you are describing it, the tables sound more useful for world building then for spitting out a random city 20 minutes before the session starts. Can you tell us more about how you want the table to ...

[quote="Count Zero"]So, let me be sure I am understanding the example. Normally dice would provide a binary result of + or 0. If you take damage, then you replace normal dice with fudge dice, so you have a -, +, or 0. So the minus may cancel out a 4, 5 or 6 on a normal dice, or provide the positive...

Two ideas. 1. Why not use coins rather than dice if you want the binary solution of 1,2,3 vs. 4,5,6? Heads you win, tails you lose. Then you can use different denominations for the different types of dice. 2. How about if the successful attacks just get added as FUDGE DICE (+, 0, -) to the player? A...
