One-shots suck. They emphasize mechanics over role playing. That's not surprising. How much character development can you do in 5 hours? How much can you care about a character that you're you're never going to use again in that context?

I don't give a hoot about prestige classes, so I think about only the first few levels. For non-class-based games, long-term planning is unnecessary.
