So yeah I went out and got it for no apparent reason because Mord pointed out that Game Empire has it...So here is to impulsive buying

So after skimming it I'm thinking of making a post apolyptic one shot out of it just for funz or a steam punk sci-fi thing So I don't feel like I wasted my money. So the system is used for CoC but I it's also used for Stormbringer, Runesquest, Nephilim. Elfquest, and Worlds of Wonder.

So they seem to have updated the system and given it some modern gaming flair that we see in other systems.
Options you have now is Chargen by point pool and by theme. Such as making a guy at normal level, heroic level, epic level or super human.
You can have fatigue and Sanity in the game.
There is a 4 tier gradient of success and failures for skills
There are FATE points...yes you heard me

Bad, probably! But whatever.
I've got an idea that is half post apoc and half steam punk believe it or not.
I believe it. I like the idea of a post-apocalyptic past -- an alternate history in which something went horribly wrong decades or centuries ago, freezing technology in a much earlier stage.

Actually everyone would start in the post apoc as survivors and go from there. Later on I will railroad players to a Steam Punk setting because it's a one shot.

Update I'm going to make 6 pre-gen characters.

Background:
Basically all the players start off on vacation at a bed and breakfast in the remote New Jersey town of Morrisey. It's 15 years in the future. A News flash hits the media of a war between two small nameless countries that neighbor each other. Apparently both countries had created a secret stock pile of nukes and decided to use them on each other, thus creating a massive nuclear winter across the globe.

The B&B owner Max tells the players that he has a fall out shelter in the basement and directs everyone to there. Players live in the bunker as total chaos reigns over the surface of the Earth. A year passes and the nomperishable food in the bunker runs out.

The players need to leave the bunker to find food or start an unsavory jump into cannibalism...or both

She will usually speak for Max when folks have a hard time understanding his thick German accent since Her English is perfect.

When the emergency came up he left his guns up in his room and only took his spare clothes with him to the bunker. Chews tabacco and has a nasty habit of spitting. Folks might remember him from the Outdoor channel 7 years ago.

Nancy Nakamura

No, he didn't make it up but there was a NPC that when described was basically of description of PK when he wears his tophot.

BRP isn't really my system of choice but I really enjoyed the concept which was a lot of fun.

I think SoTC would have been the better system mechanic for the concept

It depends. If you want pulpy goodness with flying zeppelins and crazy dogfights then yes.

I had several expectations.

In general the BRP book is a base percentile system but the book tries to update itself with various optional rules that are found in other systems….like the FATE points. I mean there is a thread on YOG Soth as to why the BRP book is so thick and I can tell you it’s because they include a ton of optional rules. They do this to hit up different genre like GURPS in a universal system. So one of the things I wanted to see was if the system could do two different genre be able to capture a different feel for both…I think that is one thing GURPS does not do well. In this case Post Apoc and Steampunk. I think it did ok. I felt the Post Apoc was more suited for the base mechanics and the Steampunk really benefitted from the optional rules. Unfortunately in the same breath I felt that if it was straight up Steampunk I would have stuck with SoTC than BRP.

I think everyone noticed the switch in the feel of the game once the Steampunk elements entered which I think was a nice indicator of the BRP ability to switch genre. Really don't think of BRP pulling off a pulpy feel. It's a fairly lethal system. But the FATE points really pulled it out.

I had expected the game to go longer because there were 4 separate scenes planned out. Bunker/Town Vamps/The Squatter/ Queens Inc. Obviously the group did not follow that order except for Nancy and Max. I usually think 2-3 scenes is about the limit for a 4 hour one shot. So I thought we would take longer. In reality we pretty much fit the within and had a fifth scene to boot if you include the opening scene of the B&B.

I originally planned to kill off Max as reason to get folks out of the bunker

I was checking out the Divination power to see if it would work. The book has warnings that inclusion of this power has caveats that will break the game. I think I was able to work it so it didn’t.

So these are some expectations
