I don't suppose we can hope that the dead guy is the idiot responsible, can we?

This is real stupid, but it makes me think of all the stupid things I (or someone right next to me) have done in my life. Man I'm lucky to be alive.

I still remember the first bonfire where you threw an unopen bottle of beer in the fire. It was at that point we decided to flee, expecting to be showered in glass in a bit. :P

Whenever I get confused about D&D alignment morality, I just imagine Abraham Lincoln and Mahatma Ghandi arm wrestling shirtless on the back of a killer whale.

In other words, I remember that it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense and deal with it best I can.

I've blown up /plenty/ of stuff. In bonfires. Stand back out of the blast zone and you're fine. The blast zone for a whole keg, though... Plus, that's probably enough force to rip through a lot of things you could find for cover, up close.

Add to the fact the keg was dropping into a metal fire barrel, which added to the shrapnel flying through the air.

The crown caps tend to go long before the glass does. It's the cans (and bottles with screw-on caps) you have to look out for.

Dude, Winter throws propane tank into fire, it becomes an amusing story to recount at, say, bonfires.

Dude throws keg in fire? It ends in tears.

Drink responsibly, everybody.

I'm pretty sure we can all rest assured that whoever did it was 95% most likely NOT to be the one killed. Probably the most innocent person at that party was the one who died. The leading cause of death for good people...is stupid people.

All I can think of is the Heineken Keg Can radio commercials where they explain how a Keg Can is better than a real 15.5 gallon Keg.

IIRC, the guy who was struck in the throat by shrapnel was something like a mile away. Unless it was a huge party, he wasn't even a part of it.

It said he lived a mile away. It didn't say where he was when the shrapnal hit him. The party had like 50 people in it, so I'm assuming he was part of the party when the thing exploded.
Police were trying to determine who tossed a beer keg into an open fire at an outdoor party early Sunday, causing an explosion that sent shards of shrapnel slicing through a crowd of partygoers, killing one.

...

Caselli, who lived with his family about a mile away from where the party was being held, died after being struck by a piece of flying metal in the neck, police said.
On second look, I think you're right that he was there after all, although this is, IMO, some pretty ambiguous reporting. Did the shrapnel slice through the crowd, leave the crowd, and hit a guy a mile away? It "[killed] one," yes, but phrases like "injured eight" or "killed three" are commonly used in stories like these, and doesn't necessarily indicate to me that "one" means "one partygoer." The detail about where he lived, to me, makes things a little vague.

Still, no matter where he was, if here weren't the jackass who put the keg in the barrel in the fire, it's a dag-blamed tragedy.

...yes the one wearing the red shirt

...Don't forget the virgin standing in front of the bonfire and keg was left unscathed. It was like a miracle or something.

I'm putting money that the guy who lived a mile away with his parents was the virgin adopted black guy with a white father, a Mexican mother and an old asian godfather.

I'm really, really confident in making the assertion that the shrapnel wouldn't cover a mile.
