RPG Madness!

So, I thougt I would jump on the "Not Basketball" March Madness bandwagon that goes around every year, and do something for us. I present to you:

The 2011 RPG Madness!

Now, I know it's kind of late into the game for us to do a full 64 games split into four groups, so I decided to start with just 32. I picked a random group of games, seeded them randomly, and put them in the following bracket. My idea was do do a different thread for each match up with a voting poll, where you could vote for your favorite RPG. Each round the poll stays open for a few days, and when it closes, the one with the most votes wins.

Where there are multiple versions of a game, like D&D or Vampire, assume the most recent version is in the tourney.

Let me know what you guys think. If you like it, I'll post the first set of polls today.

Okay, guys! Those that haven't voted yet, GO VOTE! Some of these matches are in ties right now, and we need to get things going. So.... VOTE!

Okay, the votes are in, the bracket has been updated, and new polls will be coming during my lunch break, in about an hour.

Just as a note: In those instances where a tie occurred in voting, I flipped a virtual coin to determine the winner.

I was hoping, but sadly no one did. So, it will have to come down to a virtual coin toss. I'll be getting to that shortly.

Okay, coin toss it was, and..... D&D wins the toss and moves on!

We're down to just eight games, folks, and things are starting to get tough. Some interesting match-up's this round:

Savage Worlds vs. Gamma World. Can the little game that could take down the post-apoc game to end all post-apoc games?

D&D vs. Spirit of the Century. Can the fan favorite take on the granddaddy of all RPG's?

Vampire vs. In Nomine. Can the celestials take down the undead?

Call of Cthulu vs. FATE. Can the favorite generic game take down the Great Old Ones?

Stay tuned for Round 3!

Setting aside how little sense any of this makes to me, which may or may not be a function of not following college basketball, isn't this a little redundant? Why a specific implementation of FATE as well as "generic" FATE (which only exists as a virtual Frankenstein's Monster of every FATE game on the market and differs from person to person)? I mean, what if it comes down to SotC vs. FATE? SotC vs. Starblazer or Dresden Files I understand, but SotC is FATE. How can it "beat" FATE?

Something like PDQ vs. Werewolf is weird enough (like, shouldn't it be PDQ vs. Storyteller?), but this way may lie madness. MADNESS, I tell you.

I just picked a bunch of random games. Honestly, I didn't realize that SotC used FATE (having never played). I have ideas on how to make this better for next year's run, but for now, we're already into this, so we're stuck with what's here.

I think the important question here is what does the winning game get?

We are down to the Final Four!

Savage Worlds handily beat Gamma World, to take on Spirit of the Century, who won out against Dungeons & Dragons!

Vampire, who trounced In Nomine, is going up against the big horror, Call of Cthulu, who got a narrow win against FATE!

So, who will be in our Champion match? Stay tuned to find out!

Here it is! The final match! Who will be the champion? It's going to be a tough one to call.

In the final match we have:

Spirit of the Century

vs.

Call of Cthulu

The final poll will stay up until Friday, giving us something fun to talk about at Hyphen-Con. :D

Well, it's officially over! Call of Cthulu managed to pull out a win in overtime, and are now our first RPG Madness Champions!

Can the Great Old Ones defend their title next year? Come back in March 2012 to find out!
