Hyphen-Con 15 (2019) - Pimp Your Games Thread [VOTING!]

Post by SpaceMonkey »

Now for the voting! you get 3 votes, make them count. You can't change after you vote.

Ok, everyone feel free to pimp your games here! Please remember the following:

* a max of 2 submissions per person
* any game, any game system - we're pretty open around here
* bring your best pitch, because it won't get on the schedule without some votes!
* also, please note whether you would be down to run 2 games if you submit 2 and both are voted in, or if you would prefer only one. Doesn't always come up, but helps us organize it if it does.

Pimp until: October 5th (bring your A-game people!)
Vote: Oct 6th - 13th (primary vote, run-off afterward if needed)
Prep: from the final vote tally until the Hyph (for those lucky GMs with winning pitches)

Ok, post those pitches!

Pre-Pimp:
Someone please run Eclipse Phase 2. I want to play not run it. Meanwhile I’ll figure out which PbtA games I want to pitch!

Someone on Obsidian Portal created a marvelous hyperlinked wiki for hacking Eclipse Phase to PbtA.

https://eclipse-phase-apocalypse.obsidi ... /main-page

I’ve been reading it and will probably use it to run a game. Full pitch to come!

I’d like to run Sacred Pharma, an Unknown Armies 3rd edition scenario about a cabal of queer body modifying occultists taking on the corrupt medical establishment of Philadelphia.

Pregens include:
Genesis Daniels: Diabetic programmer who is juicing her insulin to produce more efficient output.
Hye Su Park: Pharmacist who steals prescriptions to improve her mental performance.
Antoine Pierce: Nurse who performs self-surgery to enhance their body.
Lucia Morgan: Street punk artist and contortionist.
Kalisto Raye: Witch who integrates LSD and mushrooms into traditional magick.

Additionally I’d like to run this indie RPG called Honey Heist, where the forest critters of Camp Wakka Wakka in Walla Walla Washington plan a caper to steal a whole lotta sweet golden honey.

Okay, here's my two pitches. I'll happily run both of these if they get the votes.

1. Stormbreak (D&D 5e)
The islands of Mawa'lu appear to be a tropical paradise. But, like much of the Realms, appearances are deceiving, and danger lurks just under the surface. You are here just in time for two warring tribes of natives to end their war with a wedding. During the celebration, an unnatural storm hits, and goblins attack, stealing an artifact that is important to all the tribes of Mawa'lu. You are asked to recover it. Follow the clues across three of the ten islands of Mawa'lu, and find who is behind this evil storm, and the theft of the artifact. (I wrote this to be part one of three adventures that will introduce the Mawa'lu setting).

2. Grim Reapers: Agents of CORPSE (Savage Worlds Adventure Edition)
Behind the veil of the world is the Celestial Mechanism, a massive bureaucracy that runs the universe, both spiritual and physical. The Celestial Office of Recovery and Protection of Souls Everlasting (or CORPSE) is tasked with recovering Souls Everlasting (SEs) and bringing them to their Final Resting Places (FRPs). These agents are commonly called Reapers. But SE's, being sparks of the divine itself, are powerful, and a potential fuel source for those seeking to do things they shouldn't. So, occasionally, a soul goes missing. When that happens, agents of CORPSE's Soul Inquisition (SI) division are sent in to find out what happened. These agents are called Grim Reapers, and you are just such an agent.

I'm only running a single game.

Darkest Company (Band of Blades)
You are one of the few surviving soldiers in the Legion — a famous band of sell-swords. You and your Chosen are all that stands between the Cinder King’s undead armies, and the destruction of the Kingdoms of the West. The war has lasted three years, and the dead do not grow weary.

Band of Blades is dark fantasy, military fiction in the vein of the “Black Company” books by Glen Cook, using John Harper’s Blades in the Dark system. Each player will both be playing soldiers on missions, and roles (generals) making decisions for the Legion overall.

Montée de la Résistance (Uprising FATE)
In a cyberpunk, dystopian future, the citizens of Paris Nouveau are no more than indentured servants. Virtual reality has come at a cost they can never pay, a tradeoff of freedom for technology. But there are freedom fighters who reject the system, unplugging from the illusion and working to make things right once again.

Escape (Kult 4th Edition)
The Hidden Cathedral is the most talked about escape room in town right now. There’s no website, no social media page, no fixed address. Only an invite from a previous player can get you in, but you’ve got a friend who went last week, and he’s been texting you about it ever since. The texts don’t make a lot of sense, but it still sounds cool. He can get you in on Saturday night if you bring a few friends.

Ghostbusters: Arkham (Savage Worlds)
The year is 1987. To meet the increasing demand, Ghostbusters® LLC has opened franchise opportunities! You and your crew have opened shop in the sleepy university town of Arkham, Massachusetts. The old town seems to have a rich and creepy history, and more than a few reported hauntings. Maybe you’ll get lucky and find some real excitement!

Hey everybody! Long time no forum!

My games, in no particular order:

Bullets and Bourbon
A wild west game that’s loosely based on Lasers and Feelings. Scenario to be determined but also heavily dependent on PCs. There’s a Devil’s Bargain mechanic that involves drinking bourbon but I think I’ll just go with the Blades in the Dark mechanic for that.

Scum and Villainy
The sci-fi Blades variant that I think everyone is aware of already. Scenario will also be based mostly on PCs.

Hearts of Wulin - Journey to Long Gong Pass

System: PbtA

Come and immerse yourself in a game of Love and betrayal, fantastical Kong Fun fighting and deadly political intrigue. Hearts of Wulin is a game set in fantastical China where every player is a Kong Fu Master. Different from regular Hearts of Wulin, in Journey to Long Gong Pass, each player has a secret that would impact the story and other players. You must maintain your public facade while advancing your secret agenda, escape your enemy and confront the truth of a conspiracy.

You're a powerful Kong Fu Master, what could possibly go wrong?

Player: Minimum 4, Maximum 6
Length: 4-6 hours
Characters: partial pre-gen (some of your background and relationships are pre-determined, but you will have the freedom to determine many aspects of your character)

Hey All! Here are my pitches.I'm reaching back to some classic stuff. I would like to run 1 of them only.

Pitch A):

Savage Supers Slugfest
You haven’t quite gelled as a super team yet. With great power comes great ego, as they say. So no one should be too surprised that tempers flare one day during a combat training session in the Danger Room and erupt into a good old fashioned Battle Royale! Last Hero standing gets to clean up the mess. This is a tactical Savage Worlds game with maps and minis. Duke it out with your friends for bragging rights (and maybe a prize if I think of something good.) Any number of players can participate (from the beginning only-sorry no latecomers for obvious reasons.) Minimum 4. If this battle is too Fast, Furious, and Fun we can either do a second one or go into story mode if necessary (good time for a villain to knock down the door while the heroes are preoccupied with interpersonal drama!)

Pitch B): In contrast here we have an old fashioned (pre-Apocalypse World) dirty hippy story game I can run for 4 players.

In a Wicked Age
By lumpley games (D. Vincent Baker)
In this wicked age…
...Gods, demons and mortals contend with one another for power…
...Law and civilization are new, and no one is their master…
...A simple midwife can set in motion the downfall of tyrants and great empires…
...Your birth is not yours to choose, but your fate is what you make it.

I will only run one of these!

A Crossover Crisis on Mars (John Carter of Mars)
When spies report that Zodanga is abuzz with rumors of an unusual captive being held in one of the city's prisons, the Jeddak of Helium must know more. A small band of the Jeddak's agents is dispatched to infiltrate Zodanga, covertly steal the prisoner, and return with them to Helium before Than Kosis even knows they're gone.

Five players, no knowledge of John Carter (the game or the setting) required.

Star Wars: Only the Ancients Know (Dresden Accelerated hack)
As the tattered remnants of General Organa's forces search for new recruits, the First Order locks down Batuu's lone spaceport. The noose tightens around the Resistance agents laying low in Black Spire Outpost -- until an unexpected discovery turns a dire situation into a desperate one.

Five players, no knowledge of anything required -- but if you've been to Galaxy's Edge that wouldn't hurt. Bright suns!

Does it bother anyone else that the vote count is at 29? That scofflaw out there didn't use their third vote?

When we remove the games of GMs who did not want to run twice here is the list. We were planning on four games per session. We have 7 definite games and will have potential for 3 backup. One of the backup games will likely get ran.

- Escape (Kult 4th) - Cthulhu*
- Journey to Long Gong Pass (Hearts of Wulin / PbtA) - Feifei
- Scum and Villainy (Forged in the Dark) - mordraine
- Star Wars: Only the Ancients Know (Dresden Accelerated Hack) - devlin1*
- Grim Reapers: Agents of CORPSE (Savage Worlds AE) - BlanchPrez
- Savage Supers Slugfest (Savage Worlds) - Savage Slacker*
BACKUP GAMES
- Stormbreak (D&D5e) - BlanchPrez
