Hyphen-Con 2015::Pimp Your Games! [NOW WITH VOTING!]

Post by SpaceMonkey »

We also have a 4-way tie for the 6th/final slot:

Wedding Crashers [cczernia] [ 2 ] (removed as Chris only wants to run 1 game)
Danger Wars [devlin1] [ 2 ]
Transformation Anxiety [froggod] [ 2 ]
Under Troubled Waves [SpaceMonkey] [ 2 ]
If it wasn't for bad luck [mordraine]

I will modify the poll to have a vote-off for this last set. GMs - some of you are already slotted for a game and have a 2nd game in the running. Please let me know if your preference is not to run 2 games and I'll remove you from the run-off poll.

Pimping is over; Time for Voting!

Voting Now Open! Here are instructions:

Vote for up to 3 options. Pick the games you would most want to play.

You have a week to vote, so choose carefully - you will not be able to change your vote once submitted. Voting closes (semi) exactly one week from now (the morning of the 26th of October). If we need to do a run-off we will have time after that.

GMs: If there is any error in your post let me know.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, everyone feel free to pimp your games here! Please remember the following:

* a max of 2 submissions per person (one is ok as well if you know you have a winner).
* any game, any game system - we're pretty open around here
* bring your best pitch, because it won't get on the schedule without some votes!
* also, please note whether you would be down to run 2 games if you submit 2 and both are voted in, or if you would prefer only one. Doesn't always come up, but helps us organize it if it does.

Pimp until: Oct 18 (bring your A-game people!)
Vote: Oct 19th - Nov 2nd (primary vote, run-off if needed)
Prep: Nov 3rd to the Hyph (for those lucky GMs with winning pitches)

Ok, go!

"Get pimpin', GMs!" he said selfishly, knowing that this year he would be coming to play, and play hard (for 4-6 hours).

World in Peril: Revenge of Dr Malicious
Apocalypse driven Super Heroes. The heroes of The City took out their arch-nemesis, Dr Malicious. Now he is back and he wants one thing, revenge against those that put him away.

Firefly RPG: Wedding Crashers
You get a ship, then you get a crew. And then you take that crew and have them escort the daughter of a cattle baron to her wedding. It is never that easy but you gotta get paid.

Game: Distress on Life Liner 928

Description: You have just received a distress signal from zoological expedition Life Liner 928. How fortunate! As new members of the Scrap and Salvage unit, this is your bread and butter, and everyone's got to pay their bills. And survivor mean bonus credits! The captain has set a direct course. Get your Albedo Screen, your Sonic Disruptor, and a Stimdose ready, for this Star Frontiers / Savage Worlds, space-based, Lego dungeon crawl.

Teaser image: http://i.imgur.com/1BoXAhL.jpg

Contraints: No knowledge of system or whatever needed, obviously, but for best experience this game works best with 5-6 hours, and audio.

Warning: I have a 60% chance of being able to go to the Hyph, and I won't know until a little later in this process, but if I go, I'm 100% happy to run this game.

That may be a problem, y'understand -- these are four-hour slots.

And this may discourage people from voting for this pitch. Y'understand.

My chances of going this year are very near 100%. I'll be pitching something delicious very soon...

P.S. I hope tomes makes it. He's awesome and so is his pitch! I've played that game. It's rad.

OK, looks like my chance to come is closer to 5% now. (that's what I get for going to Big Bad Con... the family can only take so much happiness from me). So, nix my Star Frontiers game. :-(

Have fun!

Pitch:

City of Ghouls

As local adventurers in the City of Towers, your exploits have mostly been confined to the urban environs of Sharn. As far as scholarship goes, only one of your crew ever gave it much thought. That's about to change now that a prominent archaeologist at Morgrave University has hired you to accompany him on his latest expedition: a search for Nemret Noktoria, fabled underground city of ghouls. What could possibly go wrong?

This DungeonWorld adventure for 4 PCs set in the world of Eberron has gothic/creepy overtones with a Rennaissance flair and a dash of swashbuckling á la Lara Croft and Indiana Jones! Playbooks will include the option to play a gunslinger(Pathfinder style) or any of the PC races of Eberron(Warforged, Shifter, Changeling, et.al.) It is my only pitch and I hope you'll vote for it! :2guns:

Danger Wars (Stars Wars/Danger Patrol)
IT IS A DARK TIME FOR THE REBELLION...
...and that's all I've got. We'll make the rest up at the table. This is a Star Wars hack of John Harper's Danger Patrol (Beta Edition) I did recently and I'm eager to see how it works in play. If you're not familiar with Danger Patrol, it's a rules-light game of make-'em-ups in which your character is randomly selected in two templates. In Danger Wars, you might be a Cunning Jedi, or an Old Scoundrel, or even a Brash Droid (I don't know if that's the "even" pinnacle of this thing, but it does strike me as a little unusual). The players throw out a bunch of story elements in the beginning, and then the GM stitches those together into a premise, and then we play to find out what happens, as they say. It's a fun game.

If you want to check out the Danger Wars hack, here it is:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/lpo9pg0t4oyco ... t.pdf?dl=0

Atomic Robo and the Illusion of Choice
The players will pick one of five different Atomic Robo scenarios, and then we'll play it. The options will likely be:
  • Atomic Robo and the Invaders from Mars ('30s pulp with Jack Tarot and Nightingale)
Robo Force ('80s Robo through a GI Joe lens)
Operation Finite Injustice (a Majestic 12 adventure -- play the bad guys as good guys!)
The Centurions of Science and the Wheel of Anarchy (Nikola Tesla and friends in 1893 Chicago)
Dr. Dinosaur Must Die (genetically-modified commandos hunting the most dangerous prey of all)
If you're not familiar with Atomic Robo: The Roleplaying Game, it's a Fate game based on the comic of the same name, I wrote it (the game), it won an award (again, the game), etc.

Memory Fault (Fate / Eclipse Phase)
The last thing you remember was the upload. Something had gone wrong, and your body could no longer sustain you. Each of you has a different story, but each story ended here, in a dark room full of cloning pods. You're in a cheap cloned body, identical to the five others in the room. A single monitor of the wall displays the text "not safe" over and over. Something big is on the other side of the door, bending the door in it's frame.

Empty Sky (Savage Worlds / Spelljammer)
A spelljamming vessel drifts into port, empty of her crew. It's the third one this week. People are getting frightened, and trade is drying up. Only one crew on this rock has the courage to get to the bottom of this. Your crew.

Yo yo yo! Hello beasts and belles. This'll be my first time pimpin' a game for Hyphy...so be gentle?

Idea the first:
Remember the 80's...Rad, right? What if there were dragons and elves and hungry spheres with lots of eyeballs floating around then?
This game would take place in a world where fantasy and nostalgia collide, in a very literal way. Your group of rough and tumble rockers must find must find your missing member who ran off after an argument over the song that could take you to the big time.
Will probably use 5E as I'm liking that system alot now.
(OR..)
Maybe just do Wandering Monster High School?

Idea the second.
You're all werewolves that have been trapped in wolf form, and grabbed by animal control. Get free and lift the curse...but how?
Werewolf:Apocolypse (probably)

Sigh. Wish I had given myself more time to plan.

Probably only wanna run one, cuz I wanna play some stuff too.

*raises eyebrow tentatively* "...and....OUT"
*drops the mic*

Under Troubled Waves - A Deadlands Reloaded Adventure in California's 'Great Maze'

Everyone's heard of it. The Palt Spire collapse of '73 was the stuff of legend - all that ghost rock (some already mined and much more in a vein the size of Texas, or so they say) - gone. Fallen right into the sea when Palt Spire toppled over like a city slicker on that good 'ole Rotgut. Now this geezer says he can go and get it - right under the water, if you can believe that. Well, maybe you're just desperate enough to try. You'll be high on the hog in no time if'n its as easy as he says - but when's the last time your luck ran that way?

Posted for Mordraine (he gets a pass on the lateness of his submittal due to hosting this thing for us. Also another slot opened up, so more choices may be good.)

If it wasn't for bad luck...

You are a group of down on their luck mercenary adventurers who have reluctantly taken on the job of saving Princess Talia from the foreboding Kraven Keep, and the ruthless and terrifying General Dreadfist. Seems like a mission destined to fail. But hey, it pays well. Very well. Almost too well. (System and setting - Shadow of the Demon Lord.)

we are voting again (again) in that (apparently) modifying the poll also clears the votes. so... um.. hooray for votes?

also Cthulhu is slacking on deciding if he actually wants to run 2 games or not, so 2 of the listed run-off games may be run (but I don't know yet). so voting helps there.
