Lookin' forward to Earthdawn, but still digging through the quagmire that is the rule book. (Should I take it as a Talent, or a Skill? What's Strain again? Playing a class to suit your race's strengths seems obvious, but isn't it a bit bland?)
The three character concepts so far:
Windling Calvaryman, raised after being orphaned by Orks on the plains. Rides goats/troajins/dogs since she can't ride the same as Orks. Tough windling and full of spunk. Even thinks she has her own gahad like an Ork. Left Dwarf-allied Calvary tribe after shaman/chief that raised her passed away, seeing as most Orks live around 40 years and Windlings 170 or so. This happened around second circle and she became a loner except for mount, but realizes that this Discipline may not be the only path and seeks out a Windling Windmaster (from Namegivers of Barsaive) to learn a new Discipline.
Elf Thief from Kratas, that uses the Hawk Hatchet as both a throwing weapon and melee weapon, with Second Weapon Skill. Raised in the urban slums, this classic tale of street urchin but really richy turned classy thief that is troubled by her mother running in an opposing theives guild/or possible merchant guild. Fled Kratas after some trouble, and is pursued. Kind of a Assassin's Creed/Freerunner concept with a 'never back down from a physical/athletic challenge' attitude.
Dwarf Illusionist, Throalic rebel that just wants to stay out of it, but is constantly dragged into subterfuge from his younger, brash brother that leads a active terrorist cell against the Theran Empire. Contemplative and peaceful for a Dwarf, he avoids conflict instead of embracing it as his Dwarven brethern are so often apt to do. Mostly support and utility type spells, and a grandfatherly attitude to history, etc.
I'll make all three and then pick one when the time comes, but does anyone have any suggestions? I'll make sure all three have a good reason to be working on the airship.
And dnd3eplayer, how do I and should I advance the character to the Third Circle already? I'll keep pouring through the advancement section, but...
(I'm excited about Earthdawn, but why does reading this book feel like homework?)

And I thought the rulebook was so intuitive. We only had to remake our character 2 or 3 times. Spend your initial skill points on stuff that doesn't really matter. Everything that is important to your character should be talents.

Because it is homework. Haha... could be worse... could be Burning Wheel. Anyway, we got 5000 xp to start. You have to raise all your essential talents to the level of the circle you want to reach. This is why you can't just say everyone starts at 3rd circle.
Advancement
It's coming together now. I've got all three stat-ed and ready at first circle, and now I'm gonna play with numbers and spend that 5 grand.
Now, which pic do you guys like the most:
All I need now is a good character sheet with a place for a pic...
I like the third pic. But the first one is a windling right? We need a windling!
What we really need is a cleric. I like all the concepts but I think the windling and dwarf work best for the campaign. I really like the dwarf since he hates the Theran Empire and there are a number of characters who are renegade Theran's which could add some interesting tension.
A cleric, hmmmm.
Man. What I really like playing is the defender/cleric, too. I'll have to think about it. What class represents the healer in Earthdawn? There's no true cleric class, is there? The Nethermancer is more of a necromancer than healer. Would it be the wizard? I'll check the book out a bit and get back to you all.
I have to admit that the windlings story is the most interesting to me. I'm sure I can whip up some anti-Theran attitude from her, but perhaps I can figure out how to make her a healer too.

I was just joking about the cleric. What we need is you to play a character that you think is fun and interesting. I think Andy is playing an Ork so that would make a good connection. Giving her a strong opinion toward Theran's would give her a connection to my character.
I so go with the Windling.

These!
Hey man, I'm slinging volume and fat stacking benjies, you know what I mean? I can't be all about spelling and shit!
I'll be there. Any chance you all want to spring ($5-10 or so) for a couple of pizzas? I could pick 'em up on my way. Is that Mountain Mike's Pizza (or whatever) any good? I'll get my own grub if no one's interested.
I'm not too fond of Mountain Mike's. I think it would be easier to get our own grub for now.
Aw, Albert, you missed a smashing good time. By smashing I mean the crater-shaped hole your Obisidiman left in the crust of Barsaive as we tossed his stony ass overboard for use as an anchor. Worked well, too!
Lookin' forward to Dread! Bring on the Inquisition . . . (of loaded questions)
