So, after our discussion the other night, would anyone be interested in gathering somehwere on a weekend day (John's house, maybe?) and having a James Bond Marathon? Maybe pick the best movie from each actor?
My suggestions:
Sean Connery: Goldfinger
Roger Moore: The Spy Who Loved Me
Timothy Dalton: The Living Daylights
Pierce Brosnan: The World Is Not Enough

Nice suggestions but I would defer to these:
Sean Connery: Dr. No...best interpretation of the character. Goldfinger and Thunderball are too close.
George Laserby: How could you forget that movie it was a piece of art
Roger Moore: I loved that movie...my other suggestion is Live and Let die or For your eyes only
Timothy Dalton: Ditto on Living Daylights...I really like his James Bond for some reason
Pierce Brosnan: I'll go with your choice

I think I just naturally block out George. Actually, his MOVIE wasn't that bad, I just didn't like HIM.
Goldfinger is by far Sean's best one. It's the movie that, ironically, inspired Pierce Brosnan to become an actor. :)
I like Dalton's bond in the TLD too. Closest to the literary Bond out of all of them.
FYEO is my second choice for Roger.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm not sure I could actually make it, but I'm all for it.
And not being a Bond fan, I'll go with whatever choices you all pick.

It's called surpressing traumatic experiences:lolup: Actually the story by Ian Flemming that it's based on is one of his most character revealing of Bond. To my sadness is that the actor could not convey anything except his ability to appreciate adult magazines Gotetsu wrote: Goldfinger is by far Sean's best one. To me Dr. No had more grit and Bond wasn't as flamboyant. In a way Goldfinger lead to the formula of story telling that Roger Moore did to nauseum...which is good in it's own right but not as compelling for me when followed by Moore. My thoughts exactly. One thing Dalton did was really bring out the literary interpretation. This is so on Gotetsu. I miss my days of playing Top Secret and James Bond RPG....

Oh, I even had an actor picked out to play 005. Antony Hamilton. Remeber the show Cover Up from the 80's? Yeah, the original actor died from shooting himself in the head with a blank bullet. So, they replaced him with a British guy.
Antony Hamilton was actually considered for the role of James Bond, but was rejected because he was gay. They didn't want that stigma attached to James Bond, the ultimate womanizer. He would have made a good James Bond, though. He later died of AIDS in 1995.

I'd be down for this. And my place would be fine if no one objects.

That guy looks like the guy who's going to replace Pierce. Oddly a lot of gay men can fake straight womanizer better than most men. Too bad about stigmas and a missed opportunity.

Ok, dredging this up. Casino Royale opens on Friday. But since I have an aversion to premiere night showings, I thought maybe we could do this marathon on Saturday. Watch four Bond movies (no Lazenby for me, thanks), and then go to a late showing of CR.
So, who's up for invading John's house Saturday?

That's such an awesome idea that if I weren't going to be at Gen Con, I would totally find a way to crash this thread and invite myself.

So, since we are looking at 8 hours of movies, do we wanna get this started kinda early? Like around 10:00 or so? Also, who owns the movies? I can bring any of the Peirce Brosnan movies, but I don't yet own any of the rest. I suppose we could just hit up Blockbuster.

You wouldn't have to crash and invite yourself. You and Winter are always welcome.
That being said, it looks like it's going to be The Three Amigos again? Me, John and Richard?

So, J, is 10:00 too early? If not, R, you wanna pick me up at 9:00?

Cool beans! Ok, now here is a silly, yet probably apt question. Do you have a VCR? Because unfortunately, I only have TWINE on tape. All of Pierce's other ones I have on DVD. If you don't, then I'll bring Goldeneye instead.

I'm pretty sure I had a VCR at some point, but no idea where it is now.
