Campaign Synopsis

The Story: All is quiet within the realms though it has been a long and winding road that has lead to this peace.

Over 650 years ago, during the Year of Belai, a devastating war between the Slaumount dwarves and the orcs erupted from beneath the earth in Slaugut Valley. The orcs drove the dwarves into refuge among the human lands using vile magic never seen in recorded history. The humans stood by their dwarven brethren to face the onslaught of the orcish armies only to suffer as great and humiliating a loss as the dwarves. The orcs pushed forward into the human lands for 2 years bringing with them hordes of demons with which they became blooded. Cities were ruined and kingdoms fell. Hope was lost. The dwarves and humans were broken.

At the Battle of Lion’s Gate, the blooded orcs moved in to strike the final blow that would bring the humans and dwarves into complete subjugation; but that was not to be. The elvan kingdoms from the north and south rallied with the gnomish artificers to face the orcs and their demons. Weilding power over the earth itself and augmented by the machinations of the gnomes, the elves decimated the demonic legion and pushed the orcs back into the shadows from which they came.

The toll on the kingdoms proved to be extensive. For the next 150 years, the elves aided the humans and dwarves in rebuilding what once was. The resources provided by the elves were tremendous and the humans and dwarves welcomed the elves into their lands with open arms; an action that later defined the tenet ‘Hold your friends close and your enemies closer.’

At the culmination of the rebirth of the kingdoms, it became apparent that the elves had worked their way into the political power centers of all factions. They had waged a secret war within the borders of the human and dwarven kingdoms and had won without their opposition coming to the realization of what was afoot. The humans and dwarves attempted to gain ground but it truly was too late. The elvan kingdom’s hold was too strong. The land was theirs to keep and the lesser races were now second-class citizens.

The elves ruled for about 300 years and would have ruled even unto this day had it not been for the workings of a lone human whose name has been lost amongst the wreckage of the wars to come. You see, the elves ruled by magic not with their hearts. Had they ruled with the latter, they would have known of the infinite possibilities found within the human spirit.

The humans never gave up hope in reclaiming their lands. They integrated themselves fully into the elvan and gnomish communities. They became involved in all aspects of the new life, biding their time and learning the ways of their new rulers. Of particular interest were the gnomish penchant for artifacts and the elvan affinity for magic, both of which the humans had never shown aptitude for.

Through arduous research and experimentation, one man devised the means of the elvan downfall. Using stolen gnomish technologies, he gave the humans their ultimate victory. He developed a way to not only steal the innate magic of the elves but also to harness it for use by the humans and dwarves. Today, this finding is the foundation for the Totemist Guilds. And with this discovery, the rebellions began in the south. Their actions were harsh and brutal fueled from the betrayal that stung still fresh within their hearts. Soon, the elves of the southern kingdom of Ealandrel were stripped of that which binds them to the fey and enslaved.

Within the northern lands of Muldour, the elves were appalled at what had transpired. They demanded the city-states of the north to take action against Ealandrel but the Muldourans refused. For fear that they may be next, the elves, though this is speculation, performed a great ritual, fleeing this reality and abandoning their kingdom. The great elvan kingdom was gone with no sign it ever existed…all that was left is what is now called the Whispering Wood.

In the here and now, the kingdoms of Muldour and Ealandrel co-exist but the winds of change have begun to stir and none can know which will prove stronger, the heart of a Muldouran or the mind of an Ealandri.

The First Story Arc: Where the Winds Blow

Near the southern beaches of Ealandrel, the Harvest Festival is upon us once more in Bella’s Field. The townsfolk are excited for this year Councilman Maelene has brought in the Quickfoot Traveling Troupe to entertain the children and to celebrate the good crop. Unfortunately a wolf has escaped from the circus and has attacked a woodsman in the same spot where a young woman was found unconscious and without memory not hours earlier. Councilman Maelene has reached out for any help that can locate the wolf and bring it in before the festival begins with the hopes of rescuing this time honored tradition.

Epilogue: Where the Wind Blows

The search for the wolf led to clues beyond a simple missing animal. Something strange was afoot. A local sage murdered, a family destroyed, and long dead soldiers walking amongst the living all brought ruination to the Harvest Festival and to the people of Bella’s Field. Now, resentment and paranoia spread throughout the community; none truly knowing why such horrific things have happened. Our heroes travel forth, for reasons each their own, in search of the madman who has brought despair to these peaceful people and caused this unnatural calamity. They search not for a stranger from a distant land but for one of their own.

The Second Story Arc: Unknown Foes

Tensions rise between the three companions as their search leads them to the fishing town of Levi Crossing. They must remain together however, for orcs, not seen in this region since their defeat at the Battle of Lion’s Gate, have been spotted along the coastline and southern roads. What has lead Fenny to this quiet town? Is this the home of one of the six Fenny has mentioned? Why have the orcs resurged from the depths? And how does this tie into the so-called “gods” with whom Selanie seemed obsessed? The answers are needed but what cost will the heroes pay to learn them.
