Has anyone else been watching "True Blood"?
It's fucking dumb.
Thoughts?

Its very true to the book, Dead Until Dark. In fact episodes one and two are scene for scene, shot for shot, and line for line exactly duplicates of the first two chapters with the exception of one new character (the bitchy black woman who is Lafayette's cousin) who effectively is the authors mouth piece for the purpose of relating background info that Sookie was thinking in the book.
Since the source material is basically a decently written trashy vampire mystery, I'm quite satisfied with the show. Its certainly better than an Anita Blake adventure, though they are the same genre.
Now in episode four the dialog is finally beginning to differ from the book.
I'm looking forward to Bubba the Vampire, but have been disappointed by the casting of a couple of the supporting vampires. I think this is the best acting Ana Paquin has ever done in a live action medium. I've always previously found her annoying except in Steam Boy, she played a great little boy voice.
EDIT: As far as vampire shows go, I find True Blood superior to Dark Shadows, Kindred: the Embraced, Nick Knight, and Moonlight. The first season has been better than Angel but not Buffy the Vampire Slayer. However, competing with Whedon isn't easy.
And as for the fucking, well her brother is supposed to be a player and his purpose is to provide a cheap thrill to the female readership, to be hated by them, and to deserve what he gets when he gets it. No more spoilers though.
For those of you who didn't like the first episode, I'd give the show another shot unless you don't like trashy vampire romance mysteries. I find it most entertaining, but the opening credits leave something to be desired.
