Pretty freaking cool! I love that they used the music from the old movies. I know that was probably only because the score for this one has not yet been done, but I think they should keep it in, and maybe just embellish it a little.

Okay, now I want to see it. They could've just played "Planet Krypton" over a still image of the "S" and I would've gotten goosebumps. I love that track. Plus using Brando's lines from the original... that's a sign of commitment-- this won't be a cheap cash grab. And did anyone else notice how the architecture of Metropolis doesn't look all that incompatible with Gotham City? World's Finest? Keeping my fingers crossed.
Anyway, this is good stuff.

Stuporman
Ya know, I wasn't too keen on the new stuporman movie when I saw the guy playing him. The new actor looks like a feeb for the most part. But, if this trailer is any indication, they might be doing their best to make a good movie. Time will tell.

Yeah, I was going to mention that the link above came up with a topless girl trying to convince me to see her webcam...which might not be something you want to explain to your IT department...
Question though. Is that Anthony Hopkins' voice as the narrator in the beginning?
No. That would be Marlon Brando as Jor-El, from the 1970's Superman movie.

Actually, it's supposed to be Anthony Hopkins. Though the sound bite may actually be Brando's, due to Anthony not having recorded it at the time they produced the trailer.

It is? Are they getting Hopkins to play Jor-El?

Originally, yes. However, I did some research at IMDB, and apparently that didn't happen. So, I stand corrected. It is Marlon Brando.

Gay or Jesus?
So heres the thing... I'm reading various Entertainment Blogs (It's a guilty pleasure I have.) and I've come across two very different takes on the new superman.
1) The Advocate (A gay magazine) did an article about Superman being gay. Check out:
http://go.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml ... ertainment
2) Then the folks at FOX decided that he's more Jesus than gay:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,199339,00.html
THe PR types are doing their very best to get attention to this movie. This usually means that the movie sucks, and they'll not recover the $261 million they spent on it, unless they sink a few million more into adverts.
I for one don't find Superman that compelling, but Kevin Spacey should do a good job as Lex.
Well I hope he can come out of the closet:
Not sure where the gay thing comes from. He's always been hot for Lois.
But never able to get himself to seal the deal. I mean lets face it, if he was truely hot for her that spandex would not hold him back from pitching the tent of steel. A lot of closet gay folk hook up with women. Some even marry.

yes that's a hard one to wrap my head around. Either way I think connection just brings out the greatness of archtypes within stories and that universal archetypes and story lines transcend meaning in time...as in this case the story of the phoenix or Ganesh as examples.

Isn't there a line in the preview about humans having great potential if they have a light to guide them. That is why Jor-El sent Superman to earth?
I can see the Jesus comparison.
As to being gay... he is a little to well kept to be straight.
Whenever I get confused about D&D alignment morality, I just imagine Abraham Lincoln and Mahatma Ghandi arm wrestling shirtless on the back of a killer whale.
In other words, I remember that it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense and deal with it best I can.

Well, I wouldn't worry about it, they are already full into filming the third one...Keith Richards is playing the roll of Capt. Jack's father in that one...
and I just saw Superman Returns....'twas brillig!

Okay, so my review on Superman.
This movie was fantastic. The effects were great, the cinimatogrophy (sp?) was great and overall it was just a visually stunning movie. The movie really meshed well with Superman: The Movie and Superman II, becoming the new Superman III. I especailly liked the way the Love Triangle in the movie played out.
For all the people that thought that Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey were playing Christopher Reeve and Gene Hackman, you couldn't be more wrong. Just last week, I watched Superman: The Movie, and after watching Returns, I can see that Routh and Reeve were both playing the same character, but Routh was NOT playing Reeve playing Superman. Nor was Spacy playing Hackman playing Luthor. They both put their own spins on the characters. But, you have to also remembe, they are playing the EXACT SAME CHARACTERS as the original movie, so there's only so much spin they can put on the characters.
On that note, Routh and Spacy did excelent jobs acting in this movie. Reeve's Clark Kent was a little more goofy than Routh's was, but I still liked Routh's take on him. And Spacy, as he does, stole every sceen he was in. Kate Bosworth was good as Lois Lane. I loved the fact that they had her still smoking (though you never see her actually light up in the movie, and you get the impression she's supposed to be quitting, but just can't quite bring herself to do it).
Also, Routh, at 26, was the exact same age that Reeve was when he played Superman in 1978.
Now, the only real complaint I have about the movie was that it seemed to draw really heavilly on Superman: The Movie for script and plot points. It was kind of dissapointing to hear almost word for words some of the lines from the original movie. I realize it's been almost 30 years since Superman: The Movie was released, but still.
My two cents.

Couldn't agree more. The only 2 things I found a little nagging were 1) The pacing was just a tad slow. Not unbearably so, but still. And 2) I love Kate Bosworth. She's one of my favorite young actresses right now, but I thought she seemed too young to be Lois Lane. Kind of like Katie Holmes in Batman Begins. She did a good job too, but she seemed too young for the role.
Other than that, I was very pleased with this one. Even with the "Lex the Real Estate Mogul" rehash.
