I say it is a Homage

GLucas on one of those discovery biopic thingys stated that he had been disappointed with his special effects crew is getting the space ship fight scenes and had them scrap what they were doing and had them watch the old WW2 flicks to get the angles shots and pacing down.
The scene with Obi 1 Ken No B shutting down the deflector shield was actually taken from a 1960's TV show
