Hey everybody, here's the minutes for last night's Con meeting.

Attendance:
mordraine - chairman
opwunder - treasurer
BlanchPrez - volunteer coordinator
PMvanova - new committee member (welcome!)

Agenda:
Last night the discussion was mostly about MONEY MONEY MONEY!

a) BUDGET. So we figured out a passable budget, which included three categories: publicity, hall, and miscellaneous. Our budget for publicity is currently set at $400. Our budget for the hall is set at $500, and we didn't really come up with a misc budget, but I figure we'll probably spend somewhere in the vicinity of $200-300. So that makes our budget a whopping $1200.

b) FUNDING. We decided on three forms of funding last night. (i) personal contributions from committee members (namely me and opwunder). (ii) pledges from forum members (you guys!), and (iii) sponsorship from gaming stores.

For sponsorship, we decided on three levels:
(1) Headliner status. $1000. This basically will get them top billing. All flyers, poster, and other publicity will say "So-and-so Presents, SandiCon!". It will be prominently displayed in bold font, easy to see. They will also have the option of a sales table at the con. They will get lots of flyers to pass out in their store.
(2) Basic sponsorship. $200. This gets them a mention at the bottom of the flyers, poster and other publicity that basically says "also sponsored by: so-and-so, so-and-so, so-and-so, etc." It will be displayed in smaller font, not so prominent. They also get an option of a sales table if they want it. They will also get flyers to pass out.
(3) Stalls. $30. Basically a sales table at the con. All's they gotta do is pass out our flyers and sell stuff at our con.

c. NAME OF CON: By unanimous vote of members present, the con name was officially renamed from PacifiCon (which was already taken) to SandiCon.

d. DATE OF CON: We decided that we shouldn't worry about the date. October is pretty much unatainable at the moment. We also thought that next spring would be a decent time. It would also allow us to approach Game Towne for sponsorship, since it's far enough away from their Gamefest event, that they might be interested. But basically, the dates are open now and our main area of focus is finding a good location that fits our budget. (note - Holiday Inn Nat'l City fits our budget and if need be, we can hold our con there, but we all thought it would be good to continue searching for a better location, more centrally located).

Action Items:
1. Get the ball rolling on pledges from forums (you'll see a thread pretty soon).
2. Ask for volunteers to get sponsorships (you'll also see a thread on that pretty soon).
3. Get non-profit business status going. Includes setting up checking acct after forms are filed.
4. Create vendor flyer for use in getting sponsorships.
5. More HALL research. We still need to find a place that will fit our budget and is centrally located.
6. Con Website coordination.

How did you like the flyers? Did you want me to change anything? Are you going to get some printed...do you want me to...or do you want to assign that duty to someone else??? Do I ask too many questions???

The flyers look good... I'm not super thrilled with the slogan and I'd like to come up with something else...

Anyone have a good slogan for SanDiCon? The one opwunder came up with was "FRPing Insane Diego"...

check out my page, (http://www.intinityofstars/sandicon.html)
My logo is: 'We got game if you're game!"
If the logo I came up with is the same, with the seagull and beach, then it's there too. I don't remember whether we decided on that one or a different one.

Lame to be sure, but what the heck. If I come up with something better, I'll be sure to get it to you.

Right now, I'm pretty hip on opwunder's logo image, which is that of a D30 on what looks like a sandy beach.

BTW, that link you supplied doesn't work! :(

I know we all decided we like SanDi-Con as the name, but I have been informed by Billiekai (my fiancé) that it sounds "Gay." Apparently, she hears it and thinks "Wow, a convention for Gay Gamers." :P

Just thought I'd share.

That's because it sounds gay just like mordraine sounds gay. You have to say it with a high squeaky voice with a lisp and a faggy swish of the hips.

It sounds gay like a word without 'orc', 'black', 'death' , 'hammer' or 'scrotum' sounds gay. You know, like any word can sound gay....ehrm...right.

In short I guess if you really want it to sound gay, it can.

Well, considering the large gay-population here in San Diego, this may not be such a bad thing. Might get a bigger turn out.

As long as there's no "Furry LARP" on the schedule.

I still don't see it and I work around four gay guys at my primary job.

It must be on your mind for a reason I guess....hmmm....

Keep in mind, that this name was thought up by little ol' me.

45 single mom with three kids, two married and one 14 year old boy.

Now...I've been on vacation for two weeks from the primary job that has the filthiest set of minds in the county other than a porn store.

My sense of humor is a bit rusty but believe me...you have NO idea who you're dealing with.

Ahem.
Now, if we can get on with planning this litte soire....

Lets be honest. Without a defintion, scrotum sounds like some sort of medieval weapon used for getting through heavy plate.

Well if you go with SanDiCon-The Gathering
SDRPG Con The Gathering

Actually, the first does sound good. Short, cyrptic, and reminds people of something iconic and heroic. Like RPG characters...

But... that also may give people the impression that it IS a Highlander convention or alluding to that.
So there we go again... (sigh)

I fear that if we keep getting side-tracked and not making decisions, we will still be trying to decide on a name come spring. Without the most basic criteria, all other considerations become unable to be even begun let alone usable. All of these suggestions have merit, let us decide, though, and move on... 8)

We've already made our decision. The name is SanDiCon. It's catchy and easy to remember. I like the name "SD-RPGcon the Gathering" because of the fact that it's got our site name in it, but it's too long and not easy to pronounce. Not easy to remember by any means.

That is my pronouncement as chairman.

Sooo, to get back to Mord's original query: Printed under SanDi Con is a catch phrase. What I had put there was "FRPIN' INSANE DIEGO" and he wasn't overly thrilled by this and asked for suggestions....so suggest away, already...

In no particular order or sincerity:

SanDiCon - "The RPG Gathering"

SanDiCon - "We got game if you're game!"

SanDiCon - "This game is your game, this game is my game...this motto is lame from.."
(Church lady voice: Never mind)

SanDiCon - "Beachin' RPG man!"

That's about the best I can come up with.
