Boardgame Meet-up

Also known as 'The Hyph' or the more wordy 'rpg-sandiego all-day meet-up'. This is the place to discuss everything related to our yearly November mini-con.

Boardgame Meet-up

Post by jimmy corrigan »

judging by the numerous responses on another thread, i would like to suggest our first annual rpg-sandiego boardgame day. since there is ample space to accomodate for this at a game store, i'd like to suggest game empire, albeit nothing's final. so far i've seen illuminati, robo rally, once upon a time, talisman, and diplomacy among a slew of others being pimped.

two things to settle:

when is a good date for this?
what games do people own and would like to play?

Settlers of Cataan + expansion pack for 6 players
Some illuminati cards
Imaginiff

I own frag and one expansion pack. The one with the lava.

My attendance isn't guaranteed quite yet. Still dealing with cash-flow issues.

since i haven't read any alternatives to game empire, does anyone have an idea about which days the store isn't as full of tourney-goers/regulars?

The ones that don't end in Y? As for dates, let's try and do it sooner rather than later, since things get really hectic leading up to Christmas.

Or we could do it after the new year...

hmm. something tells me if this doesn't happen soon, it won't happen. and also, nothing's to stop us from having this be a semi-regular thing, so we can have multiple nights (so after new year's is a definite possibility).

as for right now, how do folk's tuesdays, wednesdays, thursdays, or saturdays look? i'm free except for the thursday the 1st, saturday the 3rd, and wednesday the 7th.

If I recall, Tuesdays and Thursdays at GE are filled up. FUBAR plays there on Tuesdays, and we always have to fight for a single table. And I think Thursday is some kind of weekly tourney night.

I vote for after the new year. I'm going to have enough trouble getting time to do the WLD game next month, nevermind something extra like this.

i'm here (in sd) on the 28th, but playing in dev's wuxia one-shot. no one took me up on my offer to play boardgames on a spare wednesday before new year's, so i went with adam's apple choppin', roundhouse kickin' action! you should play, too. it's gonna rock.

I'm up for it... Wednesday's work okay for me. I could leave work early and meet up someplace.

In other words, I remember that it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense and deal with it best I can.

Wouldn't we want this to be sort of a day long event? In which case, it'd probably have to be a weekend affair...

Sunday is the perfect day for things like this. If we are going to tackle Twilight Imperium, then we will need some time. I would recommend 3rd ED TI because it is faster than 2nd Edition. I could bring that if we decide to play it.

So anyone actually want to do this thing and get some people together for a board game meet up?

That sounds like a good plan... when is National Games Week again?
