Hyphen Con 09: Pimp your game

Okay, here we go!

I have soooo many one shot ideas, but I've narrowed it down to three.

Norman the Barbarian

Know, O Prince, that between the years when man first set foot on the moon, and the rise of the Sons of Obama, there was an age of legends, when mighty empires lay spread across America like shinning jewels beneath the Gods. The mighty religious power ruled by King Martin Luther, the reformer. The despotic dictatorship overseen by Uncle Sam, and may other, smaller kingdoms. But, the mightiest kingdom was that ruled by Emperor Norton, who gained the wrath of the evil sorcerer Saddam Bin Laden, who dared attack it directly. Into this world came Stormin’ Norman Schwarzenegger the Austrian from the frozen north of Canada. A barbarian, a general, a governor, with gigantic guns, and gigantic desires to see justice through, to trod the desert wastes of the Middle East under his booted feet, there to bring Saddam Bin Laden to justice at last.

Tonight’s Episode: Remains of the Lost Arc

When the God of Action himself, Chuck Norris, gives Norman and his pals a visit, they can’t refuse his mission. It seems Saddam Bin Laden’s troops have discovered the location of the remains of the mythical Lost Arc of Noah, and are planning on recovering it to use its magical powers in their war against America. Only Norman and his gang can stop them and recover the Arc for Chuck.

(NOTE: This game uses the system from Diana Warrior Princess, and is really only designed for about 3 players, thought I could accomidate 4)

Savage Lost (using Savage Worlds rules)

On a remote tropical island, a group of strangers finds themselves washed up on the shore, surrounded by a ship wreck, with no clear memory of what happened. The last they remember was heading for a vacation of a lifetime. Now, they are lost, and forced to work together to sruvive. As they explore their new island home, they discover they are being hunted, apparently by the people that sank their boat trying to finish the job, and that it's possible one of them is working with the hunters. What's really going on? Was this really an accident, or is something more sinnister going on? And on top of it all, why does everyone have the feeling that they're being watched? And more importantly, can they trust each other long enough to find out the answers to these questions?

The Monster's Revenge (4th Edition D&D)

The humans and their elven allies have trodden on your people long enough. First, they drive you away, then they declare you a threat and hunt you for sport. It is time for the tribes of the badlands to unite and strike back. You are one of the best of your tribe, and have been selected by the elders to work with the best of other tribes to enter the human lands, strike at one of their castles, and capture the princess that lies there. Bring her back alive so the tribal shamans can sacrifice her to the tribes dark Gods and bless the war that is to come. It is time for the Monster's Revenge!

I've been so caught up with OrcCon planning that I don't really know what I'd do for Hyphen-Con this year. It'd probably be some FATE-derived thing, or whatever indie-ish (but not too indie-ish, because, I mean, come on) game has captured my imagination a month or so from now -- like Storming the Wizard's Tower, which, despite the name, is not a euphemism for a sex act. Or maybe Mouse Guard, if we're all feeling better about it by then -- or Mouse Guard using Dogs in the Vineyard. I dunno. Whatever it is, I assure you, it'll be gimmicky.

The unlikeliest Famila Dei of all the worlds of the Ash consist of the Sovereign Powers of Pirates, Ninja, Robots, Zombies, and Superheroes. Although they would be the first to point out that few of these concepts actually exist anymore, thanks to the constant depredations of the Excrucians who have all but devoured their respective estates with exception of Pirates, Robots, and a lesser degree Ninja the others only survive today in fiction. However each is still championed by a Power, and vestiges of their estates survive within the confines of their Chancel.

Together can they halt the advance of their otherworldly Excrucian foe? Or will fanboys everywhere suffer the loss. You decide! Also you get to be gods.

It’s all things to all fanboys! It’s got ninjas! Monkeys! Robots! Robot ninjas! Monkey robots! Monkey robot ninjas! It’s in your face! It’s in your funny bone! Resolutions Incorporated - Transhuman Space
After months of travel from Mars, the sleeper transport vessel Harmony has returned to the Earth-Luna system with scientists and other specialists be rotated back to Earth. Rather than it's scheduled landing run, the Harmony has slammed into abandoned He3 mining fields just outside Helium City. The crew is missing, and the ship's AI insane. The condition of the crew has not been released to the press. The local Lunar governments wants answers, and wants them before the planetside governments get involved. To this end, they've hired a team from Resolutions Incorporated, who specialize in unique situations like this.

Besides most In Spaaace! Characters aren't more than a concept and a couple words strung together followed by a 1, 2, or 3. Optionally with equipment if it even matters.

No, I think there are more candidates yet to pour in. F'rinstance, I haven't properly pimped my own games yet, whatever they are. Right now, I'm thinking a Spirit of the Fist kung-fu game, or Agon, but with Vikings instead of Greeks. But I dunno. I haven't had much time or energy to think about it. OrcCon... took a lot out of me.

Tramps Like Us...were born to RUN!
The crew of the Kuh Wu Tramp is faced with getting a license to fly through the Korps Commercial area of the Verse. Captain Heller is faced with doing the long legal way of getting a license through the Alliance, which will take years, or go with her more tradition route of getting a license by the Verse black market, which is more expensive, dangerous and quick. Did I tell ya, Captain Heller loves her traditions. So the crew finds themselves meeting colorful folks like:
The Evil Tanuki (A low life scum on the Oricon black market trail who will tell ya where the best/worse deals can be found in the Verse)
Mitt 'Mitty' Egret (You've delt with him before and his thugs. A nasty customer as they come in these parts. Business with him can be torture)
Corporal Gordofsky (Yeah he busted ya on the periphery of the Korps Commercial area without the license. Lil' fast talk got ya away from him but he's got your number and is about to dial. Need to get the license!)

So yeah if you pick this I'll have to give myself a crash course in the system and watch Firefly to get me in the mood

The Munchies
Omega 13 is on a mission to fufill the great foretold prophecy of the second coming of the great prophet who has been reincarnated through the divine Do-Knot.
Sounds great, right? Not really....you probably guesed that at this point. Remember this is Omega 13. You're right behind the crap mission lines with Omega 15; which as you know are a bunch of jerk wads who screwed up one of the most important missions in the history of the Brotherhood, as Alpha One, in Vancouver. The prophet is named Jerry... or Jer to his friends. He was known a big pot head who loved munching on donuts while seeing visions of the future. So the prophesy of the divine Do-Knot is really a donut. Yes a donut. He wasn't really great and would forget important details in his visions. Like his own death. But at least he new he would be back as a donut. Not an Eclair or bear claw. A Donut. So if you don't mind hanging out at the donut shop on the corner of Garnet and Grand waiting for the second coming then this will be cake...errr...donut in this case.

This another system I will be crash coursing if you choose this. I can't guarantee this will be as fun as reading the actual core book so set your expectations low because the book is a fun read.

Greg Stolze. Yes, I would've been interested in that. I once made a character for A Dirty World and then played it for about thirty minutes, during which time I'm not sure I made a single die roll, so I'm pretty well-versed in the system.

Just wanted to comment that there were a lot of great games posted here and if your's wasn't one that got ran at hyphen-con you should run it as a oneshot. Every game got at least 2 votes and people are always just looking to play. I'll be scheduling Monsters and Other Childish Things this month.
