Okay, this will be Turn A for the first Lexicon game. Just as a reminder, here are the basic rules:

[code:1:dce8d87fb5]1. On the first turn, each player writes an entry for the letter 'A'. You come up with the name of the entry, and you write 100-200 words on the subject. At the end of the article, you sign your name, and make two citations to other entries in the encyclopedia. These citations will be phantoms -- their names exist, but their content will get filled in only on the appropriate turn. No letter can have more entries than the number of players, either, so all citations made on the first turn have to start with non-A letters.

2. On the second and subsequent turns, you continue to write entries for B, C, D and so on. However, you need to make three citations. One must be a reference to an already-written entry, and two must be to unwritten entries. (On the 25th and 26th turns, you only need to cite one and zero phantom entries, respectively, because there won't be enough phantom entries, otherwise.) It's an academic sin to cite yourself; you can never cite an entry you've written. (OOC, this forces the players to intertwingle their entries, so that everybody depends on everyone else's facts.) Incidentally, once you run out of empty slots, obviously you can only cite the phantom slots.

3. Despite the fact that your peers are self-important, narrow-minded dunderheads, they are honest scholars. No matter how strained their interpretations are, their facts are accurate as historical research can make them. So if you cite an entry, you have to treat its factual content as true! (Though you can argue vociferously with the interpretation and introduce new facts that shade the interpretation.)

4. This little game will probably play best on a wiki, and it should take a month or so to play to completion. At the end of it, you'll have a highly-hyperlinked document that details a nice little piece of collaborative world-building. [/code:1:dce8d87fb5]

I will start another thread keeping track of ALL Phantom Enteries.

Here's the theme:

We are all scholars in the renaissance-level fantasy world of Necti, writing about the Great Dragon Wars, which happened some 500 years ago, and it’s effects on religion in the modern world. Remember, this is a fantasy world, so you could be writing from the point of view of one of the human kingdom, the elven lands, or even as an Orc scholar!

Remember, only one entery per person per letter, and only two citations on this first entry.

Auubrax: Greater dragon made famous by the destruction of the Horntangle forest at the end of the Great Dragon War. Thought to have been nearly four hundred feet long, this malicious beast supposedly spent it's entire life airborne. Golden of scale, and red of eye. Cunning, though not overtly intelligent, it sought to carve out an empire for itself in the southern Valleys. After bringing several orc tribes under his control, his conquest came to a climactic end when he attempted to destroy the Elven nation of Horntangle. Although he burned the forest into cinders, his "army" was destroyed, and his power broken. He was apparently slain shortly thereafter. He is still worshipped as a demigod by the orc tribes in the area, who believe he will one day return to lead them.

Altacorpe, Gui – Perhaps one of the most important figures in the Great Dragon Wars outside of the ancient wyrm Melfaxis was the Archbishop Gui Altacorpe. Gui started his career in the church as the third son of a minor noble. His parents sold him to the church in return for the removal of certain debts the Altacorpe’s owed, as was a common custom at the time. His rise to Archbishop could be the subject of a whole book, but it was largely due to his ambition and ability to think quickly on his feat. His importance in the Great Dragon Wars came about when he made a pact with Melfaxis to have a town known to house members of the Rikar Heresy destroyed. The resulting destruction resulted in a never-before-seen military strike against the church by the armies of Westmarch, who were allowing the Rikarans to stay on their land. As we now know, this was exactly what Arch-Bishop Altacorpe wanted, as he was able to raise his army of church warriors and lead a military campaign in an attempt to take over the known world for the church. All his plans came crashing to an end 12 years later, however, when he betrayed Melfaxis to the Westmarchers, causing the great wyrm to hunt down and flay the Archbishop and much of his army in one of the final battles of the wars.

Avesti: Tall Elven Lineage, Also called the Scrivner of Skeltos. Avesti was 2nd born of the chielfly political union of the houses of Knossis and Larem, amd as such was tutored well in the diplomatic arts. As the 2nd born, he was relegated to the monastery of Elbt, where he learned the physical masteries of Tourqet and the magical discipline of Mysticism. In 1218, he was invited to the Order of Reconciliation, where he rose through the ranks until becoming Periapt of the order in 1230. As Periapt Avesti was chief of the order or Reconciliation during the Mambonic Purge of 1232 and negotiated for the defense of The Davill League concerning the re-opening of the Plague-Cities of Ur-beth and Chantil. While some saw the fact that Lord Davill was put to death, others lauded the fact that Davill’s sons were only exiled. Avesti negotiated the first disputes which lead to the Great Dragon Wars, and was successful until his assassination in 1250, at which point negotiations completely crumbled. The order of Reconciliation changed their name to the Order of Avesti, to honor this scholar.

Autolure - The Great Dragon War saw many new inventions in regards to fighting dragons. One of the more important devices during the time was the autolure. The device was originally designed to capture Teradills. However, General Londo Dontipiday enlarged the autolure 100 times making it sufficient to capture dragons. The giant hinged net could be launched from a catapault or combined with ballista. There have been over 100 variations of the original autolure and changed many strategies when fighting dragons creating the ability to capture instead of kill.

Amethyst:
Though baring no resemblance to the violet tinted quarts gem stone of the same name, Amethyst, according to historical records, was a deep red crystal said to emanate light from within. The name Amethyst is most likely a bastardization of “Amithote”, the Language Ancienta word for “blood works”.

This crystal was key to the survival and independence of The Freelands. During the beginnings of the Dragon Wars scholars of The Church of Yorth apparently discovered a way to harvest and materialize the essence of dragons and dragon-kin. Though the actual effects of Amethyst are unclear, we do know that it was in someway consumed by the warrior classes of The Freelands. The power given to these warriors was the main force that allowed the people of The Freelands to be the only nation of significant importance to avoid aligning themselves with members of the dragon kind.

Alluris, Yoseph

The Elven kingdom of Gwathgil falls under the saw of the dragon Yulshan. Yulshan begins a war of expansion into the Commir Islands and the Diamond Coast. The divided Commir Islands are quickly conquered, as is the Diamond Coast south of the Silver Silk River. The broken armies of the Diamond Coast rally under the banner of Yoseph Illuris the Golden Blade and begin a counter-offensive. With the aid of the Barbarians from the Talas Peninsula and the Dwarves of the Dragon Spine Mountains, Yoseph liberates the Diamond Coast and Commir Islands.

The offensive into the Stoneoak Forest begins with a sea borne assault on Velice, the Sinking City. After five years of unyielding warfare, the siege of the capital, Kelnoth, begins. During the siege, Yulshan calls upon the dark forces which had been fueling the Elven war machine. The Legions of the Fallen pour fourth from a rift. Yoseph and his armies fight valiantly, defeating the summoned Legion. During the Siege of Kelnoth, the Stoneoak Forest is devastated; the new Elven king outlaws the worship of the old Dragon gods, declaring the druidic ways will be the new faith of elves and begins the healing of the once great forest which once covered the Terrisan continent.

After the fighting ends, the Königstadt Concord is signed creating the Confederation of Nations encompassing all of the lands of Talas Peninsula, the Diamond Coast, Dragon’s Spine Mountains, the Great Forest, and the Commir Islands. Yoseph is crowned as the first Emporer of the Conferation and Königstadt is declared the capital of the Confederation. The Reconscruction begins.

Autarch, The The 91st Sovereign of the Iron Freeholds. Born Johann Dahkmar. Though never destined or of the proper bloodline to rule ( the seventh son of a minor duke) he was ambitious at a young age, often pitting his siblings against each other in the cutthroat environment of the Freehold court. When the battles of the Dragon Wars drew close his father the duke was slain along with all of his male siblings while campaigning to protect their homeland.

Dahkmar rode to the court of the current Sovereign to petition to take his place as lord of his house. Being prideful and arrogant he insulted the Sovereign who had him banished from the Iron Freeholds. A sorcerer whose name has been lost to antiquity promised him leadership-for a price. He accepted. At that moment his soul was claimed by the demon lord Tel' Naga. Though he lived as a bandit in exile his battlefeild exploits gained him the title of Sovereign, conquering his vanquisher and winning the support of his generals. He had many victories in the Wars proclaiming himself Autarch and absolute ruler of the Freeholds. He is known however for several acts of great violence against his own people in the name of victory. The influence of the demon Tel'Naga (who had caused great pain to many in the past) was not known until many years later.

Atland, Port of:

The port of Atland is the lone establishment on the Isle of Dengen. Originally founded by the human explorer Markus Lelenthy in 743, Atland quickly grew out of the need of a halfway point for travel on the often treacherous waters of the Elder Sea. By 1050, the port had expanded into a hub for trade and a stragetic point for controlling sea travel. This became evident during the First Tribute War when the port was captured by dragons during the Tribute War and cut trade of vital supplies between human and eleven settlements.

Assasin Gloom Weed (Aei Eophosis Kan):

A flowering plant in the south east region of Gaigon high mountain region. Known for it's many properties. The deadly name refers to the flowers method of attaining it's nutrition from insects seduced to drinking from it's blood red pistols within its long violet conic cup petals. The sticky digestive fluid surronding the pistol is well know for containing properties as a hallucinagen, spice and mystical healing property. The roots are thick and considered edible for the elite and commoner. Cuisine in most areas, particulary Mountain regions, use the root more often then rice or wheat. The Gaigon Ogre Mage and Gnome trade of the root is considered a measure of good times with prosperity for kingdoms.
The Gnomish and Ogre Mage collabrative Codex of Mountain Warfare mentions the flower juice as a short cut for illusion oriented spell components and an essential component of the regional healing potions. Capture of the flower fields during war is considered essential for victory. An Ogre Mage recipe for curing the root has been mentioned to be the poor Ogre way to having pseudo human tasting meat. A similar recipe for the Gnomish community relates the taste to chicken.

Ancheth

Thought to be invented by the ancient Gwyll, a strategy game played on a square wooden board with two sets of 10 opposing pieces rumored to have been carved from the bones of defeated armies. From the center of each end, two Sagearch, four Dreadguard, and two Hyfont Shrine trinkets are placed on an alternately colored 8 by 8 grid. The remaining two Psion Protectorate pieces lie on their respective side of the 2 by 2 quadrant in the center of the board. Players alternately move the pieces imbued with special movement capabilities, intermittently participating in skirmishes. The object: creator of the most attrition for the opponent wins.

According to legend, the Sagekings of Gywll would spend many a night playing Ancheth with feuding leaders, staking honor, large sums of territory, or both, in substitution for actual warfare. Ongoing sessions lasting whole seasons were not uncommon. It is said that over time the practice of making pieces from bone (an intrinsic, albeit wholly barbaric, reminder of the cost of war) became obsolete, replaced by ornately fashioned sets crafted from minerals. Popular among nobility are sets carved out of magic-laden plexomer jewels. Such heirloom sets are highly sought and regarded the quintessential challenge of wits from the once sage kings of ancient Gwyll.

Argrok, Grungim:

Much of orcish history is lost or exaggerated by orcish oral tradition, but the legends of Grunim Argrok have much basis in fact and seem to agree with human and elven histories. The earliest mention of his name was as the Warleader of the Grimgast Tribe. In the face of a war that drove the orcish race to near extinction, Grunim Argrok united the last tribes not under the dragon Auubrax's influence. This collection of Tribes is still known as the Argrok Tribes. Grungim also allied with Bellatrix, a great black dragon that shared their lands. With her aid Grunim led the united tribes to war against human armies, pushing them back and creating a border that exists to this day. Grunim was slain late in the Dragon Wars by Gregor Palantus, a human general. Grungim's heirs still lead the Argrok Tribes.
