Yeah... there was a lot of crazy stuff made at one point. I don't know how commonly used they actually were though.

I always thought the sword (the gauntlet sword) that Madmardigan used in Willow was a silly fantasy weapon. Really, it was an Indian weapon called a Pata and very common. There was an Indian general that was renown for his skill in using them in pairs.
Whenever I get confused about D&D alignment morality, I just imagine Abraham Lincoln and Mahatma Ghandi arm wrestling shirtless on the back of a killer whale.

In other words, I remember that it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense and deal with it best I can.

that's pretty cool, but i have this sword with a secret tip that can either kill or heal.

My favorites are the last two - the silverware and the book.

I can only imagine why the silverware was made (besides for show). Either you want to kill the cook who poisoned you before you die, or you want to assassinate someone (or three) at the dinner table.

The book is awesome. The best would be if it were a Bible.
