Well things are up and running. I'm still tinkering and adding options, but feel free to post away! Ongoing Tasks include:

* Chris is still adding to the new look & feel as well as creating a new index page for the root of the site.
* I have added some new BBCode options, let me know if you think we need anything specific.
* We were getting a few spam registrations and posts, i've switched to Q&A to see how that works - post some RPG related questions if you have them, more is better here and i've only done a few so far. If we keep getting spam after that i'll just enable dual activation.
* Search is now working, had to customize a few options. I've also switched to database index, supposedly it is faster.

Questions/comments? let me know.

Also, it appears the 'ranks' from the old forums came through, but without post threshold numbers (or maybe they were just set manually on the old boards? i'm not sure). Either way, we don't currently have any real ranks setup. These are the values in there:

we can assign new post minimums for each or we can customize the ranks and/or setup a new system. thoughts?

Funny to see those all spelled out. If you want to assign values to them go for it otherwise I'll take a stab at it when I get a chance.

Maintenance Notice: Updated to 3.0.10 - no hiccups, but let me know if you see anything that doesn't work.

Moved a few old things to the Graveyard. Mostly stuff without a post in > a year. If anyone wants any of those moved back, just let me know, but i'd like to de-clutter the index page a little (less scrolling is good ;))

Also put in some new ranks, random iconic stuff from various rpg genres, sorted every 200 postcounts by relative badassery. or something.

Would their be any way to get this site or posts to have a share option for facebook or twitter?

Does this fit the bill?

I could only get it to work in IE, and crappily there. Chrome/FF - got nothin'. It is an older style mod, if i get time maybe i'll poke around for a newer one. One that doesn't leave clutter in my ACP and force a database restore.

What the hell was all that SPAM about?!

I removed the spammers, but yeah we got a few hundred posts overnight. Still checking on how it was managed, possibly via acutal humans*, which is hard to protect against. there was an incremental update to the forum software, which i just applied in case there is any fixes in there (but the notes dont' seem to indicate there is).


* we still have question-prompt activated for registration, so either someone trolled the questions (admittedly there aren't a lot, i'll be adding more) or they hired actual people to go in and register accounts.

Update: was removing the posts, upgraded the forums. Still getting some spammers, so i've locked down registration to my approval for the time being.

I banned a couple of them and their IP address before I flushed their posts down the toilet. Would banning IP addresses help?

they should all be deleted by now. I ran a purge and changed registration so they can't auto-activate their accounts.

Sorry for the downtime everyone. My webhost upgraded their version of MySQL and it hosed my login over. They had to fix it on their side (I still don't know what the specific issue was). but things are back to normal now.

--PS: soon we will be talking about this year's Hyph!!

board update. there was about 10 minutes of downtime just now for the update process to run, so if you were seeing a 'board down' message - nothing to worry about ;)

Several MySQL tables were crashed; I have repaired and things should be back to normal.
