The powers remind me of World of Warcraft in their structure. It really looks like they have taken the things that work well about MMORPGs, and translated them to paper. I would put money on it that most of their design research was based on researching video games.

Well, it can be really complex, mainly because you have a computer doing all the calculations. The system could involve all sorts of math, the player will just never see it.

Most video game systems have very complex calculations going on.
