Re: Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG

Oh, whoops, forgot to log in! There's still plenty of room for this game, so I would encourage folks to sign up for the meetup.http://www.meetup.com/sd-dnd/events/49141762/

Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG

You’re no hero.  You’re an adventurer: a reaver, a cutpurse, a heathen-slayer, a tight-lipped warlock guarding long-dead secrets. You seek gold and glory, winning it with sword and spell, caked in the blood and filth of the weak, the dark, the demons, and the vanquished. There are treasures to be won deep underneath, and you shall have them. Return to the glory days of fantasy with the Dungeon Crawl Classics Role Playing Game. Adventure as 1974 intended you to, with modern rules grounded in the origins of sword & sorcery. Fast play, cryptic secrets, and a mysterious past await you... If you've given DCC RPG a try at a con, meetup, or game day, and want to try more, of if you're curious to give it a try for the first time, here's you're chance. I'm going to be starting a biweekly campaign on Sunday afternoons. On Sunday February 12th, I'd like to start up. I'm asking interested folks to meet at noon that day at the UTC mall Starbucks. From there, we'll move on to my place for the game. Email me for more info. Shadewest@san.rr.com

Is anybody out there playing Pathfinder?

I've been out of the loop for a while, and I'd like to get into a new group again. I'd really like to try Pathfinder, But I'd be willing to play D&D 3.5 or 4E. I'm looking for a weekend group that meets 4-5 hours every 1-2 weeks. Any longer than that, my family starts to get jealous. If anyone has room for someone like me, Please drop me a line.

For Glory!

Simple enough, give them the spotlight. Focus on one PC's storyline at a time, preferably switching up every session. I've found that too much mechanical shoe-horning just frustrates players even more. If it gets too bad, step down as GM for awhile. Explain why you're doing so. Let a few of the other folks put up with it for a while.

Ultimately, you might need to face the fact that you're the one with the odd playstyle in the group. No game for a while sucks, but at least for me, a bad game is worse. You already know there are players out there who work well for you. If it comes to it, you can find more.

Hmm. Yep, that settles it for me. I was on the fence for while, but now Obama will have to do something incredibly stupid to turn me off. In the country, even people who fit negative stereotypes have the right to vote. It may seem petty and frivolous to let an anti-D&D remark sway my vote, but when it's a tight race, it's little things that turn the out come.

Also available

I'm also in the UTC area. I'm available most weekends, and could be persuaded to DM. I like to both play a PC and DM, so if someone else is also interested in DMing I'll defer.

I was in the closet until just recently. I'm a little shy to begin with, and as a child of the 80's I reflexively flinch when I hear a gamer joke. I used to explicitly lie and say I played poker, but I won't do that anymore. I admitted to taking vacation time to see Revenge of the Sith, so my co-workers already know I'm a geek. I doubt they'd be surprised I play D&D, but I've never actually mentioned it.
My daughter is 10 and has seen me gaming all her life, so she calls me out anyway. She thinks it's completely normal, so why shouldn't I? "Is Daddy a geek?" is a favorite debate at my house.

So if anyone is up for giving Andok an Intervention, I'd be happy to join in. Andok, give in to the Dork Side.

Seriously, though...

The trouble with your personal uber-cool setting is that, once you get it perfect, you let your players wander around in it, and they don't find everything as uber- cool as you do. So you adjust.

Fine then,

If you remember when d20s wer 2 colored and marked 0-9 twice,
If you use a trick with a d6 and d10 to roll a d20,
If you pulled chits out of a bag to roll d20,
If you've ever read a copy of "the" Dragon.
If you hid your copy of Deities and Demigods because of the "dirty" pictures.

THAC0 was a basic D&D trick long before Second Edition made it a rule.
I'll admit, FR was a latecomer, but it was still two years before the second edition came along. The Time of Troubles was all about the edition change, really pooched up my campaign, and...
Okay, sorry I've still got some issues about those days. That's about when I switched to Champions.

You beat me to it.

I realized this myself the other day. I used to be a voracious novel reader. I haven't actually read any fiction to completion in a long time. However, I have multiple gaming books for perusal in my bathroom. I haven't actually been able to play in months, but I'm reading rulebooks every day. It's my pleasure reading. I may not use 1/10 of my stuff in a real game, but I still enjoy it.

Geezer gamers!

If you know what THAC0 means,
If your "Basic Set" was blue,
If you remember when the Forgotten Realms was new,
If you know the secret of the Barrier Peaks,
If you are still waiting for Tom Hanks to apologize to gamers,

Keep 'em coming. This is great!

I could go for Champs in Mira Mesa. It's been over ten years, but I think I remember how to count Body damage. It might be fun to bring an old hero out of retirement (adjusted for background and point totals, of course).

OK, It's time to try again. Apologies to those who are proud to be riff raff. If I may be so bold, I'd like to announce that I'd like to form a new game group. Forgive me if this sounds like a personal ad, but I'm Steven, I'm 34 and a customer service rep for a company in Mira Mesa. I'm looking for a small group, maybe up to 5 players for a D&D 3.5. I'd like to meet Friday nights, 6:30-11:00PM. My place is available (walking distance from UTC). The game will start Friday, January 7, or as soon as we have three committed players, (plus myself as DM). If you're interested and would like to join, drop me a line, either here or email me.
