Neuro,

It's not the money as much as the apathy of the members. Some just use it as a conveinent service. If people looked at it as a community then it wouldn't have come up. Instead I felt they were using it as a public service. I had 2 events a month. I cut it down to one. The only requirement was that the rsvp yes or no. If they said yes and something came up, they just needed to let us know. Its just common courtesy. That wasn't happening either. We had 7 people rsvp for a game once and only 3 showed. No calls, no emails.
So, I attached value to it. For less than a coffee at starbucks they could use it as a service for 3 months. and I make sure things are scheduled. It's 2.50 for three months. Thats nothing. My stress level has gone down too.

As far as the logistics of how that would work...I was imagining sitting down at a coffee shop and talking about it.

Buy the way. After reading my posts I'm noticing that I keep mentioning the dues. Incase you are thinking that i'm looking for some quick cash...this is not what this is about. I'm looking to join to groups together and make a cool community. I am willing to talk to whoever is willing and work out the details on how that looks if anyone is interested.

First off, I'm sorry for kicking you out. The only way that happens is when you don't go to the site once in a three month period. It was nothing personal. It sounds like you were busy elsewhere. If you wanted back in all you had to do is sign up again. Anyways, I don't kick for inactivity now. I charge membership fees (Only 2.50 for 3 months). It costs me $180 a year to keep that site open. All I ask is for members who want to use it as a service to help pay for it.

The point of my last email was to ask if any of you would like to join forces between this group and the meetup. I believe that any group that has an actie core will grow and gain enthusiasm.

I'm a little unclear but it seems this group has died down a little oer time as well. Not every one shot fills up and participation can vary.

I found this place by looking for San Diego gamers. Now I found some and I say lets talk about the possibilities.

Central San Diego Meetup

Hi,

As some of you know i'm a new member. So far, I played in a cool Witchcraft game using the Eden Studios system. I had a good time and I was impressed how quickly the game came together. As I mentioned to the group was that I'm an organizer for the Central San Diego Roleplaying Gamers Group at meetup.com. It had 67 members when I took it over. It grew to 120 members. Then the members got complacent. People signed up game nights and didn't show. As you know that could mess up a game. So, I decided to "Crack Down". I cut any members who didn't go to the site in 90 days. And I kept cutting. Basically, I just wanted the people who were active there. Now I got it down to 44 people.

Well, this was frustrating. I didn't want to police people in what was supposed to be fun. I also didn't want to keep paying for what was basically a message board. After a few months of examining what was going on we figured two things were going on.

1. Somone joined got into a game and never got involed with the group.

2. Someone had fun when they were younger and joined then realized they didn't have time.

Both of those things are understandable. My main problem was I wanted to be part of a Community not just a message board. So, I decided to make membership dues. The group now participates in paying for the site. I pay $45 every three months and members pay $2.50 for three months. It cuts the cost down and I don't police how active a member is. This cleared up and ulcers that were developing.

So thats the meetups history. So why am I writing this? It is because I found another group who seems to have a strong core and people who like to get together and play and hang out. So as it was suggested to me I am writing to see if you want to combine forces. Come over and chack us out. Let me know that your from this group when you ask for membership. I am having a casual meetup at Java Mamas in La Mesa on March 1st. That would be a good opportunity to talk more about this. Also, I am having a Hero System Villains game on Feb 23rd. If any of this has piqued your curiosity then join up. It's less than a frappicino at Starbucks for a three month membership. I would like help in building something. I'm even open to letting someone in this group be an assistant organizer which gives them administrating rights on the site.

I hope this makes sense. I'm kinda writing from the hip without any editing.

Read the "Nine Princes of Amber" by Roger Zelanzy. Rename the family members and you have alot of squabbling Gods.
